sport research

Ok, so I'm meant to be looking for images of extreme sports.... But I came across these beauties - how cool!

The top one is ' The Liverpool Street Ladies of London giving a gymnastic display' in 1934

The bottom one "The Hitler Youth giving a display of pysical exercises' 1935

They kind of remind me of Kim's video for Calvin Harris ....

two in one...

Sometimes I love Academy...a few of us yesterday afternoon got to go and see this -
Which was really lovely, I even cried a bit... we all came out wanting to dress in 60s clothes and get on the Eurostar to Paris instead of going back to the office....
In the evening I went to a preview screening of Fantastic Mr Fox - also great.

stroked in stoke

So last weekend three girlfriends and I went up to Stoke On Trent to visit the pottery bienniel that is going on there for the next couple of months (The website is here).

It's so sad that there is almost nothing left of the place that once housed England's ceramic heart. On a dull slightly rainy Sunday we went to see the closed down Royal Doulton factory and ate oat cakes - the local take away food...They are pancake like things and are heated on a griddle with cheese in the middle (and totally delicious).

We all felt so depressed and sad after this experience we had to rush to the Wedgewood Outlet Centre and buy lots of ceramics to ease our guilty conscience from years of buying Ikea and Habitat plates...

Reading list

Just finished this. It's good, and it made me want to be a record producer in the 60s. The sweetest thing about it is the amount of really big bands that he almost signed, but not quite...

sick and wet

It's the first time I have turned my heating on this autumn and I'm not feeling well either. An evening with a hot water bottle and lots of tea should do the trick ( I hope)

taxidermia

Such an amazing film. It went from moments of pure beauty - like this one, to utter disgusting revulsion. I felt so sick after I finished watching, but I'm so glad that I made it through.
